OCR: Solve Haunted Road Mystery

DAWSON, Neb.-The mystery of the “haunted” stretch of road near Roy Hutchinson farm, south of here, has been solved. Time and again an automobile driver hurrying past the place has been brought to a sudden halt by an explosive sound that conveved to his distressed mind the that a tire had gone “flooey.” he would jump, cussing his luck. only to find nothing wrong. This happened time and again, and soon the bit of road got a spooky name. But young Hutchinson found the joke too good to keep.

The farmhouse is situated a considerable distance from the road, but the family mailbox is within a few feet of it. Inside this the lad had hidden a pistol loaded with blank cartridges. Attached to the trigger was a string that ran back to the house. Every time opportunity offered he pulled the string, and the box, amplifving the noise. made it sound like a tire blowing out.
