Mrs. Kaber consulted a medium on ways to change her husband’s attitude and was advised to hire men to play ghosts. These “ghosts” would scare Mr. Daniel F. Kaber into being nicer.
Mr. Kaber was woken up by the two ghosts and proceeded to attack the intruders. He was stabbed to death by the ghosts during the struggle.
The hired ghosts confronted the widow after the funeral, requesting their promised payment. She believed their ghostly duties were unfulfilled and would not give them payment for murder.
Mrs. Kaber fled to New York to avoid any involvement.
